Community Challenges: Water Supply

Tooleville does not have its own city water system. People there get their water from two wells. However, this water has been found to have nitrate and Coliform bacteria, which can make it unsafe to drink.

Tooleville is one of many places in California's Central Valley that have faced problems with dirty drinking water for many years. This contamination often comes from things like chemical fertilizers, animal waste, and pesticides that get into the underground water.

For a long time, Tooleville residents have tried to get water from the nearby city of Exeter. But for over 20 years, Exeter officials did not agree to connect Tooleville to their water system.

In August 2021, the California State Water Resources Control Board stepped in. They sent a letter saying that the state would help if Exeter did not create a plan to connect Tooleville's water within six months. After this, planning for a water connection project started. This project is expected to take about eight years to finish.
