Tori Gurley (born Norristorius Gurley on November 22, 1987) is a former professional football player from the United States. He played as a wide receiver. Tori played college football at South Carolina. There, he helped his team, the Gamecocks, win their first SEC East title. They also made it to their first SEC championship game in 2010.

Tori grew up in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He went to Rock Hill High School. During his senior year, he helped his school's football and basketball teams win state championships. At South Carolina, Tori had 70 catches for 824 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns by the end of 2010. In his final season with the Gamecocks in 2010, he set a school record. He had no dropped passes that entire season!

Tori Gurley's Early Life and High School Sports

Tori was a talented athlete in high school. He played two sports: football and basketball. In his senior year, 2006, he led Rock Hill High School to state championships in both sports.

He first planned to go to the University of North Carolina. He wanted to play both football and basketball there. When Tori went to South Carolina, he changed his last name. He changed it from Childers to Gurley to honor his dad.

Prep School Experience

Before college, Tori spent one year at New Hampton Prep School in New Hampshire. He continued to play both football and basketball there. In that year, he caught 40 passes for 700 yards in football. He also scored 12 touchdowns. In basketball, he averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds per game.

Tori played college football for the South Carolina Gamecocks. He made a big impact on the team.

Freshman Year Highlights

In 2009, Tori started as a redshirt freshman. This means he spent a year practicing with the team but didn't play in games. He made his first college appearance against NC State. He caught four passes for 34 yards in that game.

Tori was known as a "physical possession wide receiver." This means he was good at catching tough passes. He had three touchdown catches called back because of penalties in his first two starts. He caught his first official touchdown pass from Stephen Garcia at Georgia.

He had some great games that year. He caught four passes for 100 yards against FAU. He also had a career-long 44-yard catch. Against Ole Miss, he caught four passes for 60 yards. He made a fantastic one-handed 43-yard catch against Vanderbilt. He finished his freshman year with 31 catches, 440 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. He played in all 13 games and started five of them.

Sophomore Year Success

Tori had another strong season in 2010 as a sophomore. He was the second-leading receiver on the team. Alshon Jeffery was the leading receiver. Tori helped the Gamecocks achieve a 9–3 record. They also won the SEC East Division Championship.

One of his best games was against Vanderbilt. He tied a school record with 14 catches for 112 yards in that game.

Playing Professional Football

After college, Tori Gurley began his professional football career. He spent time with several teams in both the NFL and CFL.

NFL Teams and Practice Squads

Tori was not chosen in the NFL draft in 2011. However, the Green Bay Packers signed him as an undrafted free agent. This means he joined the team without being drafted. He was later signed to their practice squad. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster.

He was offered a spot on the Minnesota Vikings active roster in 2011. But he chose to stay with the Packers' practice squad. The Packers released him in August 2012.

After that, Tori spent time on the practice squads of several other NFL teams. These included the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and San Diego Chargers in 2012.

In 2013, he signed with the Cleveland Browns. He played in two regular season games for them. He had one catch for 15 yards. He was released and re-signed to their practice squad multiple times that year. He also signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2014 but was released before the season started.

Canadian Football League (CFL) Career

Tori found more playing time in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Toronto Argonauts

On June 3, 2015, Tori signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. He had a great first season in 2015. He finished with 793 yards on 58 catches. He also led the league in touchdown catches with 10!

In his second season with the Argonauts in 2016, he played in 10 games. He missed some games due to injury and team rules. He caught 36 passes for 509 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Argonauts released him and three other wide receivers later that season.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Just three days after leaving Toronto, Tori signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He played in two games for the Bombers to finish the 2016 season. He caught 4 passes for 62 yards.

Ottawa Redblacks

As a free agent, Tori signed with the Ottawa Redblacks of the CFL in May 2017. However, he was released by the team in June 2017 after their preseason games.
