Cruces Bridge, connecting Valdivia with the suburb of Torobayo

Torobayo is a small area, or suburb, located near the city of Valdivia in Chile. It sits to the west of Isla Teja and is connected to Valdivia by the Río Cruces Bridge.

Torobayo's Story and Location

Torobayo was once mostly farmland. It started to change into a place with homes and businesses after the Cruces Bridge opened in 1987. Since the early 1990s, many people have moved to Torobayo. New neighborhoods, like "Los Notros" (built in 1995), "Silos de Torobayo" (2003), and "Altos del Cruces" (2004), helped the area grow.

Even though it's not a true island, Torobayo is almost completely surrounded by water. The Cruces River, the Valdivia River, and the Estancilla River flow around it. This makes it feel a bit like an island.

Fun Things to Do in Torobayo

From Torobayo, visitors can drive along the riverbanks. This scenic route leads to beautiful coastal areas near Valdivia, such as Niebla. You can also visit nature spots like Parque Oncol. These places are great for exploring the outdoors.

The famous Kunstmann brewery has a restaurant called "La Cerveceria" in Torobayo. One of their popular beers, "Torobayo Pale-Ale," is named after this very place. It's a fun spot to visit and learn about local flavors.
