Toros Peak facts for kids
Toros Peak is a tall, rocky mountain in Antarctica. It has two main tops, making it a "twin summit" peak. This impressive mountain reaches a height of 3,000 meters (about 9,842 feet). That's almost as tall as some of the highest mountains in the world!
Toros Peak is part of the Zinsmeister Ridge. This ridge is on the northeast side of the huge Vinson Massif, which is the highest mountain in Antarctica. The peak is also located within the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains. To its east, you'll find the Dater Glacier, and to its northwest, the Hinkley Glacier flows into it.
What's in a Name?
Toros Peak got its name from a small town called Toros. This town is located in the northern part of Bulgaria. Many places in Antarctica are named after people, places, or events from different countries around the world. This helps to recognize the international efforts in exploring and studying the continent.

Toros Peak is found at coordinates 78°28′03″S 85°14′55″W / 78.46750°S 85.24861°W. These numbers help scientists and explorers pinpoint its exact spot on the map. It's a very remote and icy part of the world!
The peak is located about 1.66 kilometers (about 1 mile) northeast of another mountain called Vanand Peak. It is also 5.16 kilometers (about 3.2 miles) south-southeast of Mount Segers. And it's about 7.38 kilometers (about 4.6 miles) west of Mount Waldron.
Scientists and mapmakers from the United States first mapped this area in 1961. They updated these maps again in 1988. These maps are very important for anyone traveling or studying this part of Antarctica.
