Torroella de Montgrí is a lovely town found on the Costa Brava in Catalonia, Spain. It sits on the north side of the Ter river, just a few kilometers before the river meets the Mediterranean Sea. This area also includes the popular beach town of L'Estartit and a big part of the Montgrí Massif mountains, along with the beautiful Medes Islands.
The town is about 22 kilometers east of Girona and 5 kilometers west of L'Estartit. It's easy to reach, located where two main roads, the C-31 and GI-641, meet. Long ago, Torroella de Montgrí was a very important port for the Kings of Aragon. But over time, the river filled with sand, so a new port was built at L'Estartit. Today, the town still has its old medieval center and parts of its ancient walls. You can enjoy a lively market there every Monday.

A Town with History
Torroella de Montgrí has a rich past. It was once a key trading spot because of its river port. Even though the port moved, the town kept its charm and historical buildings. Walking through its streets feels like stepping back in time. The weekly market is a great place to see local life and find interesting things.
The Montgrí Massif and Castle
The town is overlooked by the impressive Montgrí Massif to its north. This long mountain range looks like a sleeping giant from a distance. It's covered mostly in low Mediterranean plants and rocks. The highest point of this range is 308 meters. Right in the middle, at the very top, stands an old fortress called the Montgrí Castle. This castle is a famous landmark and offers amazing views of the area.
