Later, he became a regular character, Neil Cooper, in the soap opera Hollyoaks. He also played Ryan Sinclair in the famous science fiction show Doctor Who. In 2024, Tosin Cole took on a main role in the Netflix series Supacell.

Early Life and Background

Tosin Cole was born in Florida, United States. His parents are from Nigeria. He grew up in New York City, New York. When he was 8 years old, Cole moved from New York to London, England.

He went to Abbey Wood Secondary School in Greenwich, London. Tosin left school before finishing his A-levels. He wanted to focus on becoming an actor. Even though he is a citizen of both Britain and America, he sees himself as British.

Starting Out in Theatre and TV

In 2009, Tosin Cole was part of a play called Wasted!. This play was a modern version of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. It was put on by Intermission Theatre, a group that helps teenagers avoid crime.

In 2010, Cole joined the cast of the BBC teen drama The Cut. He played a character named Noah Achebe in the third season. The next year, he filmed parts in two short movies, Me and My Dad and Jasmine.

Joining Popular Soap Operas

Cole then got the role of Sol Levi in EastEnders: E20. This show was a spin-off from the well-known British soap opera EastEnders. For this role, Cole had to learn how to dance. He even performed his dance routine in front of the professional dance group Flawless in the show's final episode. He said this experience was "very, very, very stressful." Cole felt it was a great chance to work on E20 and praised the cast. He returned for the third season of the show.

After that, he was cast as a regular character in the soap opera Hollyoaks. He played Neil Cooper from 2011 until his character died in a bus explosion in 2012. Neil was one of six new characters introduced to the show at that time.

Moving to Films and Other TV Shows

In 2013, the actor appeared in an episode of the BBC medical drama Holby City. He played Keith Potts. He also got his first role in a cinema film, Gone Too Far!, where he played Razer. This was followed by another film role in Second Coming.

Tosin Cole had been chosen for the eleventh series of Doctor Who. He played Ryan Sinclair, a companion to The Doctor. The Doctor was played by Jodie Whittaker, and Cole's role started in 2018. Tosin Cole left Doctor Who in 2021. His last appearance was in the New Year's Day special episode called "Revolution of the Daleks".

In August 2022, it was announced that Tosin Cole would be a main character in Netflix's Supacell. This show was directed by Rapman. The series has six episodes and was released on June 27, 2024.
