Tournon-sur-Rhône is a town in the Ardèche area of southern France. It is one of the biggest towns in the Ardèche department. The town's name was just Tournon until 1988.

Where is Tournon-sur-Rhône Located?
Tournon-sur-Rhône is found on the right side of the Rhône River. It is in the Ardèche department. Right across the river is another town called Tain-l'Hermitage, which is in a different department called Drôme.
A Brief History of Tournon-sur-Rhône
Tournon-sur-Rhône has a long history. It had its own local rulers, called counts, as far back as the 9th century. This was during the time of King Louis I. Later, in the mid-1600s, the title of count passed to the dukes of Ventadour.
How Many People Live in Tournon-sur-Rhône?
The number of people living in Tournon-sur-Rhône has changed a lot over time. In 1793, about 3,300 people lived there. By 1962, the population had grown to nearly 7,000. In 2020, over 10,800 people called Tournon-sur-Rhône home.

What Can You See in Tournon-sur-Rhône?

St Julian's Church
The church of St Julian was mostly built in the 14th century. It is a very old and historic building.
Gabriel-Faure High School
The local high school, called the Lycée Gabriel-Faure, is in an old college building. This college was started in the 16th century by a famous person named Cardinal François de Tournon. It is still a working high school today. Sometimes, you can even take a tour of the building.
Marc Seguin Footbridge
One of the most special sights is the Passerelle Marc-Seguin. This is a suspension bridge that connects Tournon-sur-Rhône with Tain-l'Hermitage. It was built in 1825 and is the oldest suspension bridge in all of France! Today, only people walking can use it.
Tournon Castle Museum
The Château de Tournon is a castle that now has a museum inside. From the castle, you can get amazing views of the Rhône River.
