Tove Anna Linnéa Östman Styrke (born 19 November 1992) is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She became well-known after being a contestant on Swedish Idol 2009, where she finished in third place. After the show, she started her own music career, focusing on electropop music.

Her first album, Tove Styrke, came out in 2010. The New York Post even named her one of the "10 Artists to Know in 2011". She released her second album, Kiddo, in 2015. Three years later, in 2018, her third album, Sway, was released. Tove Styrke has received more and more praise for her unique music. Her song "Say My Name" was even listed as one of Rolling Stone magazine's 100 best songs of the decade.

About Tove Styrke

Tove Styrke was born in Umeå, Sweden. She has two sisters, one older and one younger. Her father, Anders Östman, was a musician. Her mother taught ballet, and Tove took classes from her when she was young. This shows that music and dance were a big part of her life from an early age.

Music Journey

Starting Out and First Album (2009–2011)

After competing on Swedish Idol 2009, Tove Styrke signed with Sony Music in December 2009. In June 2010, she released her first song, "Million Pieces". This song was co-written with Adam Olenius and Lykke Li.

On 12 November 2010, her first album, Tove Styrke, came out. The album was very popular in Sweden, reaching number 10 on the music charts. It stayed on the charts for 35 weeks and was certified platinum, meaning it sold a lot of copies. Tove Styrke helped write most of the songs on this album. Her second song, "White Light Moment", also did very well. It reached number five on the Swedish singles chart and was nominated for "Best Song of the Year" at the Grammisgalan 2012, which is like the Swedish Grammy Awards.

In January 2011, Tove Styrke won the "Best Newcomer" award at P3 Guld. She also released an EP called High and Low in February 2011. In April 2011, she sang the Swedish lullaby "Byssan Lull" in an IKEA commercial. Later that year, she released the song "Call My Name". She also joined other Swedish artists to release a charity single called "Ringar på vattnet" to help with charity efforts.

Borderline EP (2013–2014)

In 2013, Tove Styrke signed a contract with Sony Music UK. On 22 May 2014, she released a new song called "Even If I'm Loud Doesn't Mean I'm Talking To You". Her next song, "Borderline", came out on 9 October 2014. This song was the first from her upcoming EP, also called Borderline.

The music video for "Borderline" was filmed in Pyramiden and was released in October 2014. Tove Styrke performed songs from her new EP in London in November. The Borderline EP was released for digital download on 23 November 2014. RCA Records announced that Tove Styrke had signed with them, planning to release her first US album in 2015.

Kiddo, Sway, and Hard (2015–Present)

On 23 January 2015, Tove Styrke released "Ego", a song from her second album, Kiddo. The music video for "Ego" was filmed in Tokyo.

Kiddo was released on 8 June 2015. Another song from the album, "Number One", was released in May 2015 and was even featured on the TV show Riverdale. To promote the album, Tove Styrke performed at the SXSW festival and went on a small tour in the US.

On 23 July 2015, Tove Styrke released her own version of "...Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears.

On 28 April 2017, she released "Say My Name", which was the first song from her third album, Sway. Other songs like "Mistakes" and "Changed My Mind" followed. Sway was released on 4 May 2018. It was later re-released with the song "Vibe" before a tour in the United Kingdom.

Between 2018 and 2020, she worked with other artists on several songs. These included "Good Vibes" with Alma, "Last Goodbye" with Clean Bandit and Stefflon Don, and "Stuck" with Lost Kings. She also appeared on the Swedish reality television show Så mycket bättre.

On 19 June 2021, she released the song "Mood Swings".

Tove Styrke's fourth album, Hard, was released on 3 June 2022. It included songs like "Start Walking", "Hardcore", and "Show Me Love". On 23 September 2022, Tove Styrke began her own tour, the Hard Tour, to support her new album.

Musical Style

Tove Styrke's music is often described as a mix of different electronic pop styles. Some people say her music has the energy of Robyn and the catchy tunes of Annie. Her songs are often called "nonchalant, catchy boom-pop" and are known for being easy to remember and fun to listen to.
