Tove Styrke (born November 19, 1992) is a talented singer and songwriter from Sweden. She became well-known after appearing on Swedish Idol 2009, where she finished in third place. After the show, Tove started her own music career, focusing on electropop music.

Her first album, Tove Styrke, came out in 2010. The New York Post even named her one of the "10 Artists to Know in 2011." She released her second album, Kiddo, in 2015, and her third, Sway, in 2018. Tove Styrke has earned a lot of praise for her unique music. Her song "Say My Name" was even listed among Rolling Stone magazine's 100 best songs of the decade.

Early Life and Family

Tove Styrke grew up in Umeå, Sweden. She has two sisters, one older and one younger. Music runs in her family! Her father, Anders Östman, was a musician who had a number one hit song in Sweden in 1975. Tove's mother was a ballet instructor, and Tove started taking ballet classes from her when she was very young.

Music Journey

Starting Out: Tove Styrke Album (2009–2011)

After her time on Swedish Idol 2009, Tove Styrke signed with Sony Music in late 2009. In June 2010, she released her first song, "Million Pieces." This song was co-written with Adam Olenius and Lykke Li.

On November 12, 2010, Tove released her first album, also called Tove Styrke. The album quickly became popular, reaching number 10 on the Swedish music charts. It stayed on the charts for 35 weeks and was certified gold, then later platinum, in Sweden. Tove helped write most of the songs on this album.

Her second song, "White Light Moment", was also a big hit. It reached number five on the Swedish singles chart and earned a gold certification. This song was even nominated for "Best Song of the Year" at the Grammisgalan 2012, which is like the Swedish version of the Grammy Awards.

In January 2011, Tove won the "Best Newcomer" award at P3 Guld. She also released her first short album (called an EP) in February 2011, titled High and Low. This EP featured six different versions of the main song. In April 2011, Tove appeared in an IKEA commercial, singing a Swedish lullaby.

Later in 2011, Tove released the song "Call My Name" for download. It reached number six on the Swedish Singles Chart. Tove also joined other Swedish artists to release a charity song called "Ringar på vattnet." This song helped raise money to fight famine in the Horn of Africa.

New Music and Borderline (2013–2014)

In 2013, Tove Styrke signed a new contract with Sony Music UK. She released her comeback song, "Even If I'm Loud Doesn't Mean I'm Talking To You," in May 2014. Her next song, "Borderline", came out in October 2014. This song was the first from her upcoming EP with the same name.

The music video for "Borderline" was filmed in a unique place called Pyramiden in September 2014. Tove performed songs from her new EP at her first shows in London in November. The Borderline EP was released for digital download in November 2014. Soon after, RCA Records announced that Tove had signed with them, planning to release her first US album in 2015.

Albums Kiddo, Sway, and Hard (2015–Present)

On January 23, 2015, Tove Styrke released "Ego," a song from her second album, Kiddo. The music video for "Ego" was filmed in Tokyo.

The full Kiddo album was released on June 8, 2015. Another song from the album, "Number One," was released in May 2015 and was even featured on the TV show Riverdale. To promote Kiddo, Tove performed at the SXSW festival and went on a small tour in the US.

In July 2015, Tove released her own version of Britney Spears' song "...Baby One More Time," along with a music video.

On April 28, 2017, Tove released "Say My Name," which was the first song from her third album, Sway. Other songs like "Mistakes" and "Changed My Mind" followed. Sway was released on May 4, 2018. It was later re-released digitally, including the song "Vibe," before a tour in the United Kingdom.

Between 2018 and 2020, Tove worked with other artists on several songs. These included "Good Vibes" with Alma, "Last Goodbye" with Clean Bandit and Stefflon Don, "Stuck" with Lost Kings, "Been There, Done That" with NOTD, and "Love Me Back" with Ritual. She also appeared on the Swedish reality television show Så mycket bättre.

On June 19, 2021, she released the song "Mood Swings."

Tove Styrke's fourth album, Hard, was released on June 3, 2022. It included songs like "Start Walking", "Hardcore", "Show Me Love", and "YouYouYou". In September 2022, Tove began her own tour, the Hard Tour, to support her new album.

Musical Style and Influences

Tove Styrke's music is often described as a mix of different electronic pop styles. Experts say her sound combines the energetic electronic music of Robyn with the cool synth-pop of Annie and the catchy Euro-disco of September. The German magazine Kulturspiegel called her music "nonchalant, catchy boom-pop" and compared it to artists like Robyn and Lykke Li.
