Townsend County is a special area in the south of New South Wales, Australia. It's one of 141 areas known as cadastral divisions. Think of these as old-fashioned ways of dividing land for maps and property records. The famous Murray River forms its southern border. The town of Deniliquin is also found within Townsend County.
Why is it Called Townsend County?
Townsend County got its name to honor a surveyor named Thomas S Townsend. He was an assistant to another important surveyor, Thomas Livingstone Mitchell. These surveyors helped map out New South Wales a long time ago.
