Toya Alexis (born July 16, 1980) is a talented Canadian singer and actress. She is from Ajax, Ontario, and is known for her powerful voice and stage performances.

Toya Alexis: Her Journey in Music and Acting
Toya Alexis started her career by winning a "Rising Star" contest. This led her to sing at the famous Apollo Theater.
Becoming a Star: Popstars and Canadian Idol
In 2001, Toya, then known as LaToya Lesmond, was a contestant on the TV show Popstars. She made it to the finals! The winners formed a group called Sugar Jones, and Toya was even featured on their first album.
Later, in 2003, she joined the first season of Canadian Idol. She became a fan favorite and reached sixth place in the competition. Toya once shared, "I actually knew I loved to sing before I could talk."
Singing for a Cause: "Drop the Chrome"
In 2004, Toya Alexis worked with other Hip-Hop artists on a special song called "Drop the Chrome." This song was created to help young people avoid violence. Money from the song's sales went to charities that support youth.
Her First Album: S.O.B. Story
After Canadian Idol, Toya got a record deal. Her first song, "Am I Loving?", became a Top 40 hit in 2004. She also sang on songs by other Canadian artists.
Her first full album, called S.O.B. Story, came out in August 2005. It was released by Plasma, a record label owned by Farley Flex, who was a judge on Canadian Idol. The album was very successful, selling over 159,000 copies and earning a Platinum award in Canada. Some of her popular singles from this time included "Toy Boy" and "Where Did Our Love Go?".
Toya Alexis on Stage: Her Theatre Roles
Besides singing, Toya Alexis is also a talented actress. In 2005, she played the character "Mabel" in a play called Crowns. This show was performed at the Bluma Appel Theatre in Toronto.
Toya has also acted in many other plays. Some of her stage roles include Doo Wop to Motown, Once on This Island, Rainbow World, The Good Times Are Killing Me, and Dreamgirls.
