Tranmere is a quiet, mostly residential area in Tasmania, Australia. It is part of the greater Hobart area and is located about 9 kilometers (about 5.6 miles) southeast of Rosny Park. In 2016, about 1701 people lived in Tranmere.

Tranmere is a suburb that sits right by the Derwent River. From here, you can enjoy amazing views across the water to the city center of Hobart. It shares a border with Howrah to its north and Rokeby to its east.

Tranmere's Past

Tranmere officially became a named area, or "locality," in 1970. People think it might have been named after a ship. This ship brought farm animals, like cows and sheep, all the way from England in 1827. Imagine how long that journey must have taken!

Where is Tranmere?

Tranmere is special because it's bordered by water on two sides. The beautiful River Derwent estuary forms its western and southern edges. An estuary is where a river meets the sea, mixing fresh and salt water. This makes the area great for enjoying the water and its views.

Getting Around Tranmere

To reach Tranmere, you usually travel along Route B33, also known as the South Arm Highway. This main road passes just north of the area. From the highway, you can use roads like Oceana Drive and Tranmere Road to get into the heart of Tranmere. These roads help connect the quiet residential streets to the wider road network.
