Discover Trent Creek

Trent Creek is an important part of the natural landscape in the Ozarks. It helps shape the land and provides water for the plants and animals that live nearby. Learning about streams like Trent Creek helps us understand how water moves across the land.

Where Does it Start and End?

Every stream has a beginning and an end. The beginning of Trent Creek is called its headwaters. These headwaters are found in Barry County, Missouri, at coordinates 36°35′34″N 94°00′11″W / 36.59278°N 94.00306°W / 36.59278; -94.00306. This spot is just south of a road called Missouri Route UU, near the town of Washburn.

The end of Trent Creek is where it joins a larger stream. This meeting point is called a confluence. Trent Creek flows into Big Sugar Creek in McDonald County. This confluence happens at coordinates 36°35′02″N 94°08′26″W / 36.58389°N 94.14056°W / 36.58389; -94.14056.

Journey Through the Landscape

From its start, Trent Creek flows generally towards the southwest. Along its path, it passes through the Flag Spring Conservation Area. This is a special place where nature is protected.

Flowing Through McDonald County

After leaving Barry County, Trent Creek enters McDonald County. It then flows under Missouri Route 90. The creek then turns west and flows alongside Route 90, passing by a small community called Cove. About two miles west of Cove, it crosses under Route 90 one more time before joining Big Sugar Creek.

How Trent Creek Got Its Name

Many places in Missouri are named after local families or important people. Trent Creek is named after a family who lived in the area a long time ago. This is a common way that natural features get their names.
