The more well-known Tri-Cities area is found around Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland. These three cities are all about the same size.

This region is part of Central Michigan. It includes most of Bay County, Saginaw County, and Midland County. Together, these three counties are often called the Greater Tri-Cities. You might also hear this area called the Great Lakes Bay Region.

When people study populations, this area is known as the Saginaw, Midland, and Bay City Metropolitan Area. This name refers to the combined area of these three counties. In 2020, about 377,474 people lived here.

Michigan's Western Tri-Cities: Grand Haven, Ferrysburg, and Spring Lake

There is a smaller, less known Tri-Cities area in Western Michigan. It is located in Ottawa County, which is west of Grand Rapids.

The three towns in this western Tri-Cities region are Grand Haven, Ferrysburg, and Spring Lake. In 2020, the total population of these towns and the areas right next to them was about 47,263 people.
