Trident is a popular type of chewing gum that doesn't have sugar. It first came out in 1960 in the United States. A company called American Chicle introduced it.
Later, in 1962, Warner-Lambert bought American Chicle. Trident gum also arrived in the United Kingdom in 2007. In many parts of Europe, you might find this gum under a different name, Stimorol. It's usually the same kind of gum as Trident.

The Story of Trident Gum
Trident gum changed its recipe in the early 1960s. This happened when artificial sweeteners became more common. Instead of sugar, they started using a sweetener called saccharin.
This new version was called Sugar-Free Trident. Its first slogan was "The Great Taste that Is Good for Your Teeth." This was one of the first times a gum company promoted how their product could help your teeth.
Who Owned Trident?
Over the years, many companies have owned Trident gum.
- First, it was made by American Chicle.
- Then, Warner-Lambert bought American Chicle in 1962.
- In 2000, Pfizer bought Warner-Lambert.
- Later, in 2003, Pfizer sold the candy part of the business to Cadbury Schweppes. This part became known as Cadbury Adams.
- In 2010, Kraft Foods (which later became Mondelēz International) sold Trident.
- Now, a European company called Perfetti Van Melle owns Trident and other gum brands.
Famous Slogans
For many years, Trident used a very famous slogan. It said, "Four out of five dentists surveyed recommend sugarless gum for their patients who chew gum." This slogan became very well-known.
It was based on a survey of dentists from the 1960s. About 80% of the dentists surveyed seemed to agree with recommending sugar-free gum. This slogan really helped people connect Trident with good dental health.
In the early 2000s, Trident got a new slogan: "See what Unfolds."
What's in Trident Gum?
Trident gum contains a special ingredient called xylitol. This is a type of sugar alcohol. Xylitol is known for being "tooth-friendly," which means it can be good for your teeth.
However, it's important to know that xylitol is not safe for dogs. It can be very harmful to them.
Trident has also faced some questions about its packaging. For example, its original flavor gum shows a blue mint leaf. But the gum doesn't actually contain real mint.

Trident Original was the very first kind of Trident gum. You can usually find it in packs with 3 or 14 pieces. These pieces are wrapped in plastic.
