Tropidophis cacuangoae is a type of small snake, also known as a dwarf boa. It belongs to the Tropidophis group of snakes. Scientists officially described this species in 2022.

About This Snake

T. cacuangoae is a fairly small snake. It usually grows to about 20 centimeters long. That's about the length of a standard pencil! These snakes have skin colors and patterns that look a lot like a larger snake called the boa constrictor.

Where It Lives

This snake is found only in South America. More specifically, it lives in Ecuador. When an animal or plant lives only in one specific area, it is called endemic to that place.

How It Was Discovered

Scientists found this new snake species in 2022. It was discovered in the Ecuadorian Amazon. A team of researchers from different groups found it. These researchers included Mauricio Ortega Andrade, Alexander Bentley, Claudia Koch, Mario Yánez-Muñoz, and Omar Entiauspe Neto.

They found two of these snakes. One was in the Colonso Chalupas national reserve. The other was in a private park called Sumak Kawsay.

Naming the Snake

The snake's name, cacuangoae, honors a very important person. It is named after Dolores Cacuango. She was an indigenous rights activist from the early 20th century. She worked hard to protect the rights of native people in Ecuador.
