Troy Hambrick (born November 6, 1976) is a former American football player. He was a running back in the National Football League (NFL). He played for teams like the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals. Before turning professional, he played college football at the University of South Carolina and Savannah State University.

Troy Hambrick's Early Life and High School Success
Troy Hambrick grew up playing football. He and his brother, Darren Hambrick, were key players for Pasco High School. In 1992, they helped their team win the Class 3A state championship.
As a senior running back, Troy had an amazing season. He ran for 1,731 yards and scored 36 touchdowns. Because of his great performance, he earned many awards. These included All-state honors and Sunshine Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He was also named to the Florida Super 24 Senior Team. The Tampa Tribune also recognized him as their Player of the Year.
College Football Journey
Troy Hambrick earned a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina. In 1996, he made history as a freshman. He was the first freshman at the school to rush for over 100 yards in two games in a row. He gained 120 yards against the University of Florida. Then, he rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns against Clemson University. In that Clemson game, he and another player, Duce Staley, both rushed for over 100 yards. This was only the second time two players from the school had done that in the same game. He finished his freshman year with 281 yards and 5 touchdowns.
As a sophomore, Troy led his team in rushing. He had 604 yards and 5 touchdowns. In his junior year, he became the starting running back. He led the team again with 701 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. After his junior year, he left the team. At that time, he was ranked 18th on the school's all-time career rushing list.
Troy then transferred to Savannah State University for his senior year. He quickly became the starting running back there. He had an outstanding season, rushing for 1,189 yards. He also scored 18 touchdowns. He led the SIAC Conference in scoring with 116 points. He set several school records at Savannah State. These included most rushing yards in a game (181) and most rushing touchdowns in a season (18).

Playing for the Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys signed Troy Hambrick in 2000. He joined them as an undrafted free agent. He started on the practice squad. Later that year, he was moved to the active roster. In his first season, he played in the final game. He led the team in rushing with 28 yards.
In the 2001 season, Troy started 9 games as a fullback. He also started 2 games as a running back. He gained 579 yards rushing. His average of 5.1 yards per carry was third-best in the NFL. In one game against the Philadelphia Eagles, he had 107 rushing yards. This included an 80-yard run, which was one of the longest in Cowboys history. He also had a big game against the Atlanta Falcons, rushing for 127 yards.
In 2002, his rushing numbers went down. However, he was still excellent on special teams. He made 17 tackles, which was second-best on the team.
Troy Hambrick became the starting running back for the Cowboys in the 2003 season. He took over from legendary player Emmitt Smith. Troy had a great year, rushing for a career-high 972 yards and 5 touchdowns. His strong play helped the Cowboys reach the playoffs for the first time in several years. In a game against the Washington Redskins, he ran for 189 yards. This was one of the best rushing performances in Cowboys history at the time. The Cowboys decided to make changes to their team in 2004. They drafted a new running back, Julius Jones. Troy was then released from the team in May 2004.
Time with the Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals
After leaving the Cowboys, Troy signed with the Oakland Raiders in May 2004. However, he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals within a month.
In a surprising turn, Troy ended up backing up Emmitt Smith again with the Arizona Cardinals in the 2004 season. He played in 10 games. He rushed for 283 yards and scored one touchdown. He later injured his foot and was placed on the Injured reserve list. He was released by the Cardinals in August 2005.
Arena Football League Attempt
In 2007, Troy tried to make a comeback in the Arena Football League. He signed with the Utah Blaze. However, he left the team within a month.
