Troy McHenry Walters (born December 15, 1976) is an American football coach and a former player. He is currently the wide receivers coach for the Cincinnati Bengals in the National Football League (NFL).
Walters played as a wide receiver and punt returner in the NFL for eight seasons. Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Stanford Cardinal. He was recognized as an All-American and won the Fred Biletnikoff Award. This award goes to the best college football receiver of the season.

Early Life and High School Sports
Troy Walters was born in Bloomington, Indiana. His father, Trent Walters, also played football in college and professionally. Trent played for Indiana and spent two seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos in the CFL.
Troy went to A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, Texas. He was a talented athlete, playing football, basketball, and running track. In his senior year of football, he was named to the Texas Magazine First-team. He also earned honors as a second-team All-Greater Houston player and a third-team all-state selection.
College Football Achievements
Troy Walters received an athletic scholarship to attend Stanford University. He played for the Stanford Cardinal football team from 1996 to 1999.
In 1999, during his senior year, he was named a first-team All-American. He also won the prestigious Fred Biletnikoff Award. Walters finished his college career with 244 catches and over 3,900 receiving yards. He still holds the record as Stanford's all-time leader in both receptions and receiving yards.
Professional Playing Career
The Minnesota Vikings picked Troy Walters in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL draft. He played for the Vikings from 2000 to 2001. During this time, his father was also part of the Vikings' coaching staff.
After leaving the Vikings, Walters played for several other NFL teams. He was with the Indianapolis Colts from 2002 to 2005. He then played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2006 and the Detroit Lions in 2007.
Throughout his eight-season NFL career, Walters played in 98 games. He caught 102 passes for 1,135 yards and scored nine touchdowns. He also returned 117 kickoffs for 2,594 yards and 139 punts for 1,241 yards.
Coaching Career Highlights
After his playing career, Troy Walters became a football coach. His first coaching job was at Indiana State University in 2009. There, he worked as the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, and wide receivers coach.
He then moved to Texas A&M University, coaching wide receivers from 2010 to 2011. Walters also coached wide receivers at North Carolina State University in 2012. From 2013 to 2015, he coached wide receivers at the University of Colorado Boulder. He also helped with recruiting players there.
In 2016, Walters joined Scott Frost's coaching team at the University of Central Florida. He served as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. In December 2017, he was a finalist for the Broyles Award. This award recognizes the best assistant coach in college football.
Walters followed Coach Frost to Nebraska in December 2017. He worked as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach there. He left the University of Nebraska on January 17, 2020.
On February 10, 2020, the Cincinnati Bengals hired Walters as their assistant wide receivers coach. In 2020, he took over the main wide receivers coaching duties for two games. This happened when the regular coach, Bob Bicknell, was away due to health protocols. Walters has been the wide receivers coach for the Bengals since 2021.
