Tule Springs Archaeological Site: Discovering the Past

The Tule Springs area has been important for a very long time. Many Native American people visited this spot long before Europeans arrived. Later, the ranch became a place where people from other states could stay. They would live there for a short time to meet Nevada's rules for becoming a resident. Some of the original ranch buildings are still there today. You might even see a few peacocks walking around!

The archaeological site at the springs was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 20, 1979. This shows how important its history is.

Tule Springs Wash: A Home for Rare Plants

The Tule Springs Wash is a type of dry riverbed, also known as the Upper Las Vegas Wash. It eventually flows into the Las Vegas Wash. This wash area is special because it's home to some rare plants. One of these is the Las Vegas bear poppy. This poppy is not found in many other places.

This entire area is part of a bigger plan called the Tule Springs Ice Age Park. This park is meant to be a conservation area, covering about 23,000 acres. In 2014, the United States Congress officially made this area a national monument. It is now known as the Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument.
