Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie is a superhero film from 1997. It was directed by David Winning and Shuki Levy. This movie is the second film in the Power Rangers series. It came after Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.

The film was made by Saban Entertainment and Toei Company, Ltd.. 20th Century Fox distributed it. The story happens after the TV show Power Rangers Zeo. Many of the characters from the movie then joined the next TV series, Power Rangers Turbo. The movie's events lead right into that show.

Like the TV show, the film used ideas and costumes from a Japanese series. This was Gekisou Sentai Carranger. Some sets and costumes made for the movie were later used in the TV series. The main bad guy, Maligore, was even reused as Dark Specter in Power Rangers in Space.

The movie was released on March 28, 1997. It received mixed reviews from critics. Some people did not like the special effects. Others thought it was too silly. But many critics praised the actors' performances.

Movie Story: Turbo Power Rangers

A Wizard in Trouble

On a planet called Liaria, a wizard named Lerigot is in danger. An evil space pirate named Divatox is hunting him. She wants his special golden key. This key can open a gate between different dimensions. Divatox wants to use it to marry Maligore. He is a powerful demon trapped in a volcano. Maligore promises Divatox great riches and power.

Lerigot escapes Divatox's forces. He travels to Earth to find Zordon and Alpha 5. But he lands in Africa by mistake. The sun's rays make him weak. He meets some chimpanzees and stays with them. Meanwhile, Divatox follows him to Earth.

New Powers for the Rangers

In Angel Grove, the Power Rangers are training. Rocky DeSantos, Adam Park, and Tommy Oliver are preparing for a charity fight. They want to save the Youth Shelter. Rocky accidentally hurts his back. Katherine Hillard and Tanya Sloan arrive with Justin Stewart. Justin is a kid who looks up to Rocky. He often visits the shelter.

Rocky is rushed to the hospital. Justin follows the group and finds out they are the Power Rangers. Zordon sends Tommy and Katherine to find Lerigot. They find him and bring him back to the Power Chamber.

Divatox's nephew, Elgar, kidnaps Bulk and Skull. Divatox wants to use them to wake up Maligore. But the sacrifices must be pure of heart. Divatox quickly rejects Bulk and Skull. She then finds Kimberly Hart and Jason Lee Scott scuba diving. Divatox captures them instead.

The Rescue Mission

Lerigot and the Rangers are contacted by Divatox. She has captured Lerigot's family. She demands Lerigot surrender himself. She also uses Kimberly and Jason to pressure the Rangers. At the exchange site, Elgar tricks the Rangers. He captures Lerigot.

Zordon and Alpha create new powers for the Rangers. These are the new Turbo powers. They also get new vehicle-like Turbo Zords. The Rangers travel across the desert in their new Zords. They are joined by Justin. He has received Rocky's Blue Ranger powers. Rocky is still recovering in the hospital.

On Divatox's submarine, Jason and Kimberly plan to escape. Bulk, Skull, and Kimberly manage to get away. But Jason is trapped and left behind.

Facing Maligore

Divatox and the Rangers travel through the Nemesis Triangle. They reach the island where Maligore is. Divatox fires a torpedo at the Rangers' ship, the Ghost Galleon. The Rangers barely escape. Kimberly is recaptured by the island's native people. They worship Maligore as their god.

At the temple in the volcano, the Rangers try to free Jason and Kimberly. But they are possessed by Maligore. They attack the Rangers fiercely. The Rangers manage to free Lerigot and his wife Yara. They undo the possession.

Divatox is very angry. She sacrifices her nephew, Elgar. This successfully revives Maligore. The Rangers combine their Turbo Zords. They form the Turbo Megazord to fight Maligore. They defeat him. Divatox and Rygog escape, vowing to get revenge.

The Rangers pick up Jason, Kimberly, Lerigot, Yara, Bulk, and Skull. They return to Angel Grove. At the charity competition, Jason takes Rocky's place. They win the fight. This earns the money needed to save the youth shelter.
