Farkas "Bulk" Bulkmeier and Eugene "Skull" Skullovitch, known as Bulk and Skull, are funny characters from the Power Rangers universe. They were regular cast members from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers until Power Rangers in Space. Bulk later appeared often in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. Skull also made a quick visit in that show. This makes them the two characters who appeared for the longest time in the series. They also returned for a short appearance in Power Rangers Wild Force. Later, they came back in Power Rangers Samurai. Here, Bulk teaches Skull's son, Spike, how to be a samurai.

Paul Schrier plays Bulk, and Jason Narvy plays Skull.

Character Overview: Who are Bulk and Skull?

Bulk and Skull often brought lots of comic relief to the show. They used silly slapstick humor. Their actions often had funny sound effects. They even had their own special music. This music was based on Skull's high-pitched laugh and a tuba sound for Bulk.

Their looks also added to the comedy. Bulk was a bit heavy, and Skull was thin. They were like the famous comedy duo Laurel and Hardy. Bulk was usually the leader. Skull would often follow him and try to copy what Bulk said. He would usually start with "Yeah."

Adventures of Bulk and Skull

Early Days: From Bullies to Friends

In the very first pilot for the TV show, Paul Schrier played an unnamed bully. He was part of a gang. Jason Narvy was not in this first pilot. Later, in a second pilot, Paul Schrier played Bulk. Jason Narvy joined as Skull. Skull was originally supposed to be a more serious character. But Jason Narvy's funny audition helped him get the role.

This early version of Bulk was a bit more serious. He would try to scare Kimberly. But he was still defeated in a funny way. He ended up tied with a skipping rope. This pilot scene later became part of the episode "Big Sisters."

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: High School Shenanigans

Bulk and Skull started as bullies at Angel Grove High School. They often picked on the Power Rangers. They were always at the Angel Grove Youth Center. In the first season, they often wanted money or to look cool. They tried many silly plans, like making up a fake kung fu style. They also tried to catch fish or claim reward money. But their plans always failed. They often got in trouble with their principal, Mr. Caplan.

Sometimes, other punks were with them. Early plans for the show included a recurring female punk named Sharkie. Skull had a crush on Kimberly. Bulk seemed to like Trini in some episodes. When the girls were alone, Bulk and Skull tried to impress them. But it always ended with them looking silly. When the girls were with the other Rangers, Bulk and Skull would call them "nerds" or "geeks."

The duo often got caught up in the villains' plans. In "Green with Evil: Part IV," they tried to leave the city. But Goldar took them hostage. The Power Rangers had to save them. In "The Mutiny: Part 2," Pirantishead made their ATVs go wild. Billy later removed the spell. In "Zedd Waves," Beamcaster put a spell on everyone. Bulk and Skull were affected too. Skull even said "Hail Lord Fred" instead of "Hail Lord Zedd."

Over time, Bulk and Skull changed. They became less aggressive. They even showed their good side. In "Foul Play in the Sky," they were seen plane-spotting. In "A Pig Surprise," they happily looked after a pig. In "The Ninja Encounter," they helped save a runaway baby. They even showed they were good at skateboarding.

In the second season, they tried to find out who the Power Rangers were. They failed many times. This was either because they were clumsy or the Rangers stopped them. They finally gave up in "A Friend in Need: Part III." During this time, they became smarter. They made clever plans. They even found out the Rangers' identities twice. Once, they saved the Rangers by helping them get their memories back. Another time, a psychic told Bulk who the Rangers were. But he didn't believe her.

In the third season, they joined the Angel Grove Junior Police Force. They met Lieutenant Jerome Stone. They changed from bullies to good-natured, funny characters. Ernie and the Rangers were proud of them. Lt. Stone often gave them tasks. They usually failed, which made him angry. But Bulk and Skull were close to Lt. Stone. They tried to do their police duties. They even helped people sometimes. They tried to save children from drowning. They stopped a car thief. They also helped with a housing project. They often ran into monsters and got scared. Lt. Stone even wondered why they always found monsters. They were like "monster magnets."

Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers: Back to Being Kids

Bulk and Skull became children again. This happened because of Master Vile's Orb of Doom. They acted like the bullies they were in the first season. They didn't remember the Rangers, except for Billy. Bulk was briefly turned into a monster called "Brat Boy." He fought the Aquitian Rangers. But his human self came back. So Rita and Zedd turned him back to normal.

Power Rangers Zeo: Detective Duo

In Power Rangers Zeo, Bulk and Skull stayed in the Junior Police Force. They even got a new motorcycle with a sidecar. They left the force when Bulk accidentally got Lt. Stone fired. They joined him when he started his own detective agency. They were still scared of monsters. But their stories focused on their detective work. They even solved a case against rival detectives.

During this time, Bulk and Skull secretly took in Rito and Goldar. The monsters had lost their memories. Bulk and Skull treated them like "pets." But when Rito and Goldar got their memories back, they returned to Lord Zedd and Rita.

In one episode, Skull showed he was a great pianist. He played a difficult classical piece. He kept this talent a secret because he was afraid of being made fun of. But Adam, a Ranger, supported him. Bulk was very proud of Skull after seeing him perform.

Bulk and Skull had a big achievement in Zeo. They were trapped in Prince Gasket's prison. They met an alien named Tritor. Tritor thought they were brave warriors. Bulk and Skull pretended to be heroes. They helped Tritor free other prisoners. They even defeated some bad robots. Tritor said they would be legends on his home planet. No one on Earth believed their story, except for Tommy, Katherine, and Jason.

Near the end of Zeo, Bulk and Skull took a test to become detectives. A monster attacked during the test. But they thought it was part of the exam. They kept taking the test even as the office fell apart. They passed the test! But they were shocked when they learned the monster attack was real.

Zeo ended with Bulk and Skull going to France for a secret mission. This was later ignored in the next movie.

Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie: Brain Scramble!

At the start of Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, Bulk, Skull, and Lt. Stone were police officers again. They were kidnapped by Elgar. Their brains got scrambled. They thought they were other people. Bulk thought he was German, and Skull thought he was Antonio Bandaras. They escaped with Jason and Kimberly. The Power Rangers later helped them get their memories back.

Power Rangers Turbo: Chimpanzees and New Jobs

In Power Rangers Turbo, Bulk and Skull got one last chance to join the police. But they met Elgar. He turned them into chimpanzees! This ended their time as police officers.

They stayed chimpanzees for several episodes. Lt. Stone took care of them. They tried to tell him who they were, but he couldn't understand. They were turned into chimps so the actors could work on a spin-off show. The spin-off never happened.

Later, some Rangers were shrunk. They used a monster's torpedo to grow back to normal. Bulk and Skull were nearby. They also turned back to normal. But they became invisible for three episodes. When they became visible again, Stone asked where they had been. They joked, "Just monkeying around."

After high school and the police force, Bulk and Skull needed jobs. Stone helped them find work. They tried many jobs, like pizza delivery and construction. But they were always fired. So they had new jobs in almost every episode. They also got to know the second group of Turbo Rangers. The Rangers liked them. T.J., the Red Ranger, even defended them when they were wrongly accused of stealing.

Power Rangers in Space: Alien Hunters and Heroes

In "Save Our Ship," Bulk and Skull saw a UFO. They started working for Professor Phenomenus. He was always looking for aliens on Earth. The Professor was very strange but also smart. The three often met the Space Rangers. Bulk and Skull appeared in fewer episodes this season. This was because the Rangers were often off Earth.

In "Countdown to Destruction: Part 2," Bulk and Skull had their most important moment. The Space Rangers were losing to Astronema. She demanded the Rangers be given to her. Everyone in Angel Grove lost hope. But Bulk and Skull still believed in the Power Rangers. Bulk told everyone the Rangers would save them. The next morning, the Rangers were going to give themselves up. But Bulk suddenly said he was a Ranger. Skull, Professor Phenomenus, and other people did the same. Astronema ordered them to be destroyed. Then the real Space Rangers showed themselves. Bulk was shocked to learn who they were.

As the Rangers fought, Bulk and Skull became true heroes. Bulk rallied the civilians. He and Skull led the charge to help the Rangers. Bulk fought a bad robot to protect Zhane. Skull pulled a monster off Ashley. After Zordon's energy wave saved the day, Bulk, Skull, and Professor Phenomenus celebrated.

Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy: Space Travelers

Bulk and Professor Phenomenus went on the space station Terra Venture. They forgot Skull! Skull had overslept and missed the trip.

Later, Bulk and the Professor worked at the Comet Cafe restaurant. Mike Corbett thought they should be in the science division. Bulk said they had been fired. At the end of the series, Bulk and the Professor survived Terra Venture's crash. They were among those cheering the Galaxy Rangers.

Power Rangers: Wild Force: A Quick Return

In the Power Rangers Wild Force episode "Forever Red", Bulk and Skull made a special appearance. It's not explained how Bulk returned from Mirinoi.

Bulk and Skull were managers at a bar called "Bulkmeier's." Tommy Oliver, a veteran Power Ranger, was also there. Bulk and Skull talked about the early days of Power Rangers. Bulk bragged about meeting Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa. Skull reminded him that he was there too.

Power Rangers Samurai/Super Samurai: Training a New Generation

Power Rangers Samurai shows Bulk trying to train Skull's son, Spike, to be a samurai. But Bulk often failed. They worked out of a garage. Spike calls Bulk "Uncle Bulk" because Bulk's sister married Skull. Spike also has a crush on the Pink Ranger, just like his dad.

Skull made a short appearance in the Power Rangers Super Samurai finale, "Samurai Forever." Skull came to pick up his son in a fancy car. Bulk and Skull saw each other. Bulk said Skull had changed. But they were still good friends. Skull and Spike bumped their heads on a sign when waving goodbye to Bulk.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie: Big Screen Heroes

Bulk and Skull joined the Ranger teens for a charity skydive. They landed where Ivan Ooze's prison egg was found. They were later seen at a party. They helped the Rangers' friend, Fred Kelman, and other kids. They stopped the parents of Angel Grove from jumping off a building. At the end of the movie, Bulk and Skull were offended. This was because a sign thanked the Power Rangers, even though Bulk and Skull had helped save people.

Canceled Spinoff: What Could Have Been

Around the time of Zeo, there were plans for a Bulk and Skull comedy spinoff show. They would have run a hotel. Jason Narvy said it might have been their grandmothers' hotel. A Mexican Elvis impersonator was going to be a character. Narvy believes a video release called The Good, The Bad, and the Stupid was a test. When it didn't sell well, the show was canceled. This is also why the actors were turned into chimpanzees in Turbo. They were busy filming the pilot for their spin-off.
