Turbo is a brave and strong robot character from the Gobots toy line. He is also a main hero in the Challenge of the Gobots cartoon series. Turbo can change from a robot into a cool concept car. He was one of the three main heroes in the cartoon, appearing in every episode with Leader-1 and Scooter.
Turbo also appeared in the Gobots movie. Later, he even made a small appearance in a Transformers story. This happened after Hasbro bought the Gobots characters. The voice of Turbo was provided by Arthur Burghardt.

Meet Turbo: A Guardian Gobot Hero
Turbo is known as Leader-1's main helper and one of the toughest Guardian robots. His car form is super fast, making him one of the quickest Gobots around. He is also very strong and powerful.
Turbo is incredibly brave, always ready to face danger. Sometimes, his bravery makes him a bit headstrong, which can lead to him getting hurt. He is very loyal to Leader-1. Turbo also has a friendly competition with his friend Scooter, where they often joke about who is smarter or stronger.
Turbo has a special rivalry with Crasher, a Renegade Gobot. Since Crasher also turns into a sports car, they often battle each other. Like most Gobots, Turbo can fly in his robot form. He can also shoot energy blasts from his hands.
Interestingly, the actor who voiced Turbo, Arthur Burghardt, also voiced the evil Devastator in the The Transformers TV show.
Turbo's Adventures in the Cartoon Series
Turbo appeared in every episode of the Challenge of the Gobots cartoon. He was usually a main character in the stories.
When the Gobots first came to Earth, Turbo became good friends with a human astronaut named A.J. Foster. A.J. often drove Turbo when he was in his car mode.
In one adventure, the Renegades, led by Cy-Kill, attacked a lab. Turbo and other Guardians like Leader-1 and Scooter defended it. Even though the Guardians were winning, the Renegades managed to escape.
Turbo also played a big part in episode #14, "Ultra Zod." In this episode, he put on a special Power Suit. This suit helped him combine with other Guardians to form a giant robot called Courageous. Courageous then defeated the powerful Ultra Zod.
Later, the Renegades tried to trick the Guardians. They used a device to make robot copies of the Guardians. Turbo was one of the Guardians who was copied. But the real Turbo and his friends figured out the plan. They used the fake Turbo to sneak into the Renegade base and rescue the captured Guardians.
In episode #27, "Tarnished Image," the evil Doctor Go created a device that made the Renegades look like Guardians. Cy-Kill, Crasher, and Cop-Tur pretended to be Leader-1, Scooter, and Turbo. They caused trouble on Earth, making humans banish the real Guardians. But the Guardians eventually proved their innocence and chased the Renegades away.
Turbo again used a Power Suit in episode #28, "Auto Madic." He helped form Courageous to defeat another enemy robot called Puzzler.
In "The Fall of Gobotron," episode #43, Cy-Kill took over Gobotron. Turbo, Small Foot, and Sparky helped trick the Renegades guarding a special machine. This allowed the Guardians to ambush them.
In "Return of Gobotron," episode #45, Turbo received a new Power Suit with stronger blasters. He combined with other suits and a ship to form Courageous again. This helped them defeat a large group of Renegade ships.
Turbo also helped the Rock Lord Boulder on the planet Cordax.
Turbo in Comics and Books
Turbo has appeared in several comic books and stories:
- He was in the comic story "Scooter's Mighty Magnet."
- He appeared in "La Busqueda" (The Search) from an Argentina Gobots comic.
- He was also in "El Asedio De Cy-Kill" (The Siege Of Cy-Kill) from another Argentina Gobots comic.
- Turbo was featured in the 1985 Robo Machine book The Wagner Sirens.
Turbo's Role in Robo Machines Comics
In the Eagle comic series, Turbo joined the Security Forces without much introduction. He quickly proved to be a brave and loyal robot. He was not as clumsy as his cartoon version. He fought against Casmodon in London and bravely saved his friend Dozer during a tough battle.
Turbo's Appearance in Other Media
Turbo made a short appearance in the animated comedy show Robot Chicken. He was in an episode called "Book of Corrine."
Turbo's Toy Model
The toy version of Turbo was first released in 1983. It was a re-release of a Japanese toy called Supercar Robo from the Machine Robo series. The Turbo toy was available throughout the time the Gobots toy line was produced. It was also sold in Europe.
