Tutor Key is a small, unincorporated community in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. It is located about 4.5 miles northeast of Paintsville. Tutor Key was first known by a different name: Mingo.

History of Tutor Key
The first post office in what is now Tutor Key opened on July 3, 1897. It was named Mingo by a local reverend, E. J. Harris. He was from Mingo County, West Virginia.
Why the Name Changed
Starting in the late 1930s, people in Mingo began having problems. Mail was often sent by mistake to Wingo, another city in Graves County, Kentucky. To fix this, a local resident named Lon Daniels suggested a new name. He thought of "Tutor Key" after seeing a brand of shoe polish in a nearby store.
