Exploring Twin Peaks Mountain
Twin Peaks is a fascinating mountain that can sometimes be a bit tricky to spot. It sits high up in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, near a place called Twin Peaks Pass. If you are looking at it from the east, especially from US 395, it can be hard to tell it apart from other mountains around it.
The Two Summits of Twin Peaks
Even though its name is "Twin Peaks," the mountain actually has two main tops, or summits, that are not exactly the same height. The western summit is the tallest point of the mountain. It reaches an amazing height of 12,323 feet (3,756 m) above sea level! This makes it a little bit taller than its famous neighbor, Matterhorn Peak, which is 12,279 feet (3,743 m) high.
Neighboring Mountains and Location
Twin Peaks is surrounded by many other interesting mountains. Some of its neighbors include Whorl Mountain, Black Mountain, Excelsior Mountain, Mount Warren, Virginia Peak, and North Peak. The mountain is located to the west and slightly north of Mono City.
