Mountains around the lake

The two main mountains you will see are Sinopah Mountain and Rising Wolf Mountain. Sinopah Mountain is named after a Blackfeet Indian princess. Rising Wolf Mountain is also very impressive. These mountains show how powerful glaciers were in shaping the land.

How the lake was formed

Two Medicine Lake was formed by glaciers many thousands of years ago. As huge sheets of ice moved through the valleys, they carved out the land. When the glaciers melted, they left behind the deep basins that filled with water. This is how many lakes in Glacier National Park were created.

Connecting waters

Two Medicine Lake is part of a larger water system. Water flows into the lake from Two Medicine Creek. Then, a short stream carries water out of Two Medicine Lake to Pray Lake. This shows how all the water bodies in the park are connected.
