The Two Medicine River is a cool river in northwestern Montana, United States. It's about 60 miles (97 kilometers) long. A "tributary" means it's a smaller river that flows into a bigger one. The Two Medicine River flows into the Marias River.
Journey of the Two Medicine River
From Mountains to Plains
This river begins high up in the Rocky Mountain Front. This is a part of the Rocky Mountains in Glacier National Park. It starts near the continental divide. The continental divide is like a giant line across North America. Rain or snow that falls on one side flows to the Pacific Ocean. Water on the other side flows to the Atlantic Ocean or the Arctic Ocean.
The Two Medicine River flows east from these tall mountains. It travels down from the rocky peaks. Then, it crosses flat lands. These lands are part of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. This is the home of the Blackfeet people.
Joining Other Waters
As the river continues its journey, it gets bigger. It picks up water from other streams. One important stream it meets is Birch Creek. This happens in the southeastern part of Glacier County.
Finally, the Two Medicine River meets another stream called Cut Bank Creek. When these two streams join together, they form a new, larger river. This new river is the Marias River. This meeting point is about 12 miles (19 kilometers) southeast of a town called Cut Bank.
