Discovering Two Rock
Two Rock is located on Stemple Creek, a small waterway in the area. It's a rural spot, meaning it has more open land and farms than busy city streets.
Where Did the Name Come From?
The community gets its name from two special rocks. A hill called Dos Piedras, which means "two rocks" in Spanish, overlooks the area. This hill is about 157 feet (48 meters) above sea level. The old Mexican trail from San Rafael to Bodega used to pass right between these two rocks.
A Look at the Past and Present
In the past, Two Rock had a post office. It was located where Bloomfield and Tomales Road meet. There was also a school about 1.3 miles west of the old post office on Tomales Road.
Today, the original school building is still standing. However, a new school has been built a bit further east. Two Rock used to offer basic services to the nearby ranches. Now, not many of those services remain.
What's Around Two Rock?
The main road that goes through Two Rock is Valley Ford Road. It runs from the northwest to the southeast. Just south of Two Rock, you'll find the Coast Guard's Training Center Petaluma. This is a place where Coast Guard members get their training.
