Where Tyersal Beck Flows
Tyersal Beck starts near the Odeon cinema on the eastern side of Thornbury. It flows through the beautiful Phoenix Park Golf Course. This course is located between Farsley and Thornbury.
The Stream's Journey
The stream has a longer starting branch. This branch begins near 53°47′42″N 1°42′45″W / 53.79500°N 1.71250°W. It runs along the southern edge of the golf course. It flows just north of the railway line that connects Bradford and Leeds.
The two branches of Tyersal Beck join together. This happens west of Daleside Road near 53°47′48″N 1°41′48″W / 53.79667°N 1.69667°W. From there, the stream first flows mostly towards the east. Daleside Road and the railway line both cross over it.
Passing Through Pudsey
Tyersal Beck then turns sharply south. It flows along the edge of Upper Moor. The stream runs through the valley between Tyersal and the western part of Pudsey town. Here, it passes under the old Pudsey loop line railway embankment. It goes through a special tunnel called a culvert.
This embankment was built a long time ago, in the late 1800s. People used to say it was the biggest man-made embankment in Europe back then!
Joining Other Streams
After this, Tyersal Beck meets another stream called Carr Beck. It then makes a big curve. The stream winds its way at the bottom of a wide valley. It turns east towards the southern edge of Fulneck Golf Course.
Finally, Tyersal Beck joins with Holme Beck. When these two streams meet, they form a new stream. This new stream is called Pudsey Beck.
The Environment of Tyersal Beck
Tyersal Beck is usually a very clear stream. This means you can often see the bottom. However, there have been times when people have reported pollution in the water. It's important to keep our streams clean for nature.
