How Tyro Started
Tyro was founded in the fall of 1886. This happened when the Denver, Memphis & Atlantic railroad reached the area. The city was named after the English word "tyro," which means "beginner" or "novice." Tyro officially became a city in 1906.

Tyro is located at 37°2′9″N 95°49′18″W / 37.03583°N 95.82167°W. The United States Census Bureau says the city covers about 0.53 square miles (1.37 km2) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.

Tyro's Population in 2010
In 2010, there were 220 people living in Tyro. These people lived in 88 different homes, and 61 of these were families. The city had about 415.1 inhabitants per square mile (160.3/km2) people per square mile.
