Carter played college football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He earned special honors and won national awards. He played for teams like the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, and San Diego Chargers.

Tyrone Carter's Early Life and Football Start

Tyrone Carter was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He grew up in Pompano Beach, Florida. At Blanche Ely High School, he was a top player. He was named to the all-county defensive first-team. He also played running back on offense. In his senior year, he gained 1,349 yards. He scored 23 touchdowns, showing his amazing talent.

College Football Achievements

Carter went to the University of Minnesota. He studied sociology there. He played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team. He was a first-team All-American in 1998. He was also a consensus first-team All-American in 1999. This means almost everyone agreed he was one of the best.

In 1999, he won the Jim Thorpe Award. This award goes to the best defensive back in college football. He was also a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. This trophy is given to the best defensive player in the country. He won the Carl Eller Award twice. This award is for the Gophers' best defensive player. Playing in the NFL

Carter signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in October 2004. He played in nine games that year. He re-signed with the Steelers in 2005. In 2005, he played in all 20 games. This included the regular season and playoffs. The Steelers won Super Bowl XL that year. Carter helped them win their first Super Bowl in 26 years.

The Steelers re-signed Carter again in 2007. He signed a three-year contract. When starting safety Ryan Clark got sick, Carter stepped up. He started five games in Clark's place. In 2008, Carter played in all 16 regular-season games. He was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 17. He had two interceptions and a touchdown in that game. He earned his second Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl XLIII.

In 2009, Carter became a key player when other safeties were injured. He started several games for the Steelers. In a game against the Denver Broncos, he had two interceptions. One of them was returned 48 yards for a touchdown. This helped the Steelers win the game. He was again named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Other NFL Teams

In 2010, Carter signed with the Washington Redskins. However, he was released before playing any games. Later that year, he joined the San Diego Chargers. He played seven games for them before his career ended.
