J. Uduch Sengebau Senior is an important leader from the island nation of Palau. She is a skilled lawyer, a former judge, and a dedicated politician. Since 2021, she has served as the Vice President of Palau, helping to lead her country. Before becoming Vice President, she was a member of the Senate of Palau for many years.

Early Life and Education
J. Uduch Sengebau Senior was born in 1965 in Ngerbeched, a town in Koror, Palau. She started her education at a Catholic primary school in Palau. Later, she moved to Hawaii for her high school studies. She graduated from Waiakea High School in 1983.
After high school, she continued her education at the University of Hawaiʻi. There, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then went on to study law at the William S. Richardson School of Law, where she received her law degree in 1993.
Becoming a Lawyer and Judge
After finishing her law studies, J. Uduch Sengebau Senior returned to Palau. She began her career as a staff attorney for the Micronesian Legal Services Corporation. This organization helps people with legal issues.
She also worked for the government as an assistant attorney general. Later, she became an associate judge in the Land Court. She even served as an associate justice pro tem (a temporary judge) in the appellate division of the Supreme Court of Palau. From 2003 to 2007, she was the senior judge of the Land Court. After leaving this role, she worked as a lawyer in her own private practice.
Time in the Senate
J. Uduch Sengebau Senior first became a senator in Palau's parliament in 2012. During her time in the Senate, she worked on important issues. She introduced a bill (a proposed law) to make sure women had maternity leave from work. This bill also aimed to stop unfair treatment against pregnant women.
She strongly supported gender equality, which means equal rights and opportunities for everyone, no matter their gender. She also helped create a non-government organization (NGO) called the Centre for Women’s Empowerment Palau. This group helps women get into leadership roles. She was re-elected as a senator in 2016.
Becoming Vice President
In January 2021, J. Uduch Sengebau Senior took on a very important role: Vice President of Palau. As Vice President, she helps the President lead the country.
Besides being Vice President, she was also given other responsibilities. When she first started, she was assigned as the Minister of State. This role involves handling foreign affairs and government administration. In July 2021, she was reassigned and became the Justice Minister of Palau. In this role, she oversees the country's legal system and justice department.
