Ultimate Custom Night is a thrilling survival horror video game. It's a point-and-click game created by Scott Cawthon. This game is the eighth in the popular Five Nights at Freddy's series. It's also the second "spinoff" game, meaning it's based on the main series but offers a different kind of gameplay.
In Ultimate Custom Night, you face off against more than 50 characters from previous games. You get to choose how difficult each character is, making the game easier or harder for yourself. You can also change the look of your office and try to complete fun challenges. The game was first planned as extra content for Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator (2017). But it grew so big that it became its own game! It was released for free on Microsoft Windows in June 2018. Later, it came out for mobile phones (iOS and Android) in April 2020. Console versions for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch followed in April 2021.

Gameplay: Survive the Night!
This game lets you pick from 50 characters from the first six Five Nights at Freddy's games. You can even choose characters from FNaF World. For each character, you set their difficulty level. This can be anywhere from "0" (very easy) to "20" (super hard).
How to Play and Win
During the game, you need to manage different systems to stay safe. You'll use doors, ventilation, and air ducts to stop the animatronics from getting you. Your goal is to survive from midnight (12 a.m.) until 6 a.m. in the game. Each in-game hour lasts about 45 seconds.
Cool Features and Power-ups
- Faz-Coins: You can earn these coins to buy special power-ups.
- Plushies: These help you stop certain animatronics.
- Death Coin: This special coin lets you remove one animatronic from the current night.
You can also choose how your office looks. There are 16 different challenges you can try to complete. The final game has 59 characters, with some appearing even if you don't choose them.
Special Characters and Secrets
- Dee Dee: From FNaF World, Dee Dee can randomly appear. She might bring in a character you didn't choose, or one of six special characters not usually available.
- XOR: This is a new version of Dee Dee. XOR can summon all six of those extra characters at once!
- Fredbear Easter Egg: There's a secret in the game! If you use the Death Coin on Golden Freddy when he's the only active character and set to difficulty "1," you'll see a scary surprise from Fredbear. Fredbear is an older version of Golden Freddy who only appeared in mini-games before.
Development: How the Game Was Made
In February 2018, after Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator was released, Scott Cawthon shared some news. He said he was thinking about working with bigger companies for his future games.
From Add-on to Full Game
Soon after, Scott updated his message. He announced he would create an "ultimate custom night" add-on for Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator. He said it would feature over 50 animatronics from the whole series attacking the player. But as he worked on it, he realized the add-on was becoming huge! It was so big that he decided to make it a separate, full game instead.
Keeping Fans Updated
While programming the characters, Scott kept fans in the loop. He updated a "progress bar" on his website. He also shared short descriptions of the characters on a Steam post. The game was first planned to be released on June 29, 2018.
A Special Release Date
However, on June 22, Scott made another Steam post. He revealed he had planned to release the game that very day! But he had promised a YouTuber named Lewis Dawkins (also known as "Dawko") that he wouldn't release it until Dawko returned from a cruise vacation. So, Scott waited until Dawko was back on June 27 to release the game.
