These mountains are part of the larger Innuitian Mountains system. Only the Challenger Mountains, located further northwest, are more northern than the United States Range. The highest point in this range is Mount Eugene, which stands at 1,850 meters (about 6,070 feet) tall.
About the United States Range
The United States Range is one of the most northern mountain ranges on Earth. It is part of the Arctic Cordillera, a vast chain of mountains that stretches across the Arctic regions of Canada. This range is almost at the very top of the world.
Where Is It Located?
You can find the United States Range in the northeastern part of Ellesmere Island. Ellesmere Island is a very large island in Nunavut, which is a territory in northern Canada. The British Empire Range is another mountain range located just to the west of the United States Range.
How It Got Its Name
The United States Range was named in 1861. An American explorer named Isaac Israel Hayes gave it this name. He named the mountains after his ship, which was called the "United States."
