Before becoming a guru, Upasni Maharaj was a yogi, someone who practices spiritual disciplines. He spent three years with a famous Indian saint named Sai Baba of Shirdi. After this time, people believed he became a sadguru, which means a true spiritual master. Upasni Maharaj is especially well-known because he was the teacher of another famous Indian spiritual leader, Meher Baba. Even today, people who follow Upasni Maharaj live in Sakori and look after his temple there.
