Upper Hermitage is a quiet, rural area located northeast of Adelaide, South Australia. It's part of two local government areas: the City of Tea Tree Gully and the Adelaide Hills Council. This suburb is close to other rural places like Yatala Vale and Gould Creek.

A Look Back: The History of Upper Hermitage
The story of Upper Hermitage is closely linked to farming and growing grapes for wine. It also has a history of quarries that dug up sand and freestone. This stone was very important.
The stone from these quarries was used a long time ago to build many famous buildings in South Australia. These include the Adelaide Town Hall, the General Post Office, the Supreme Court, and St Peter's Cathedral.
Upper Hermitage has also faced big challenges. It was badly affected by large bushfires in 1955, known as the Black Sunday bushfires. More recently, the 2015 Sampson Flat bushfires also caused significant impact here.
Where is Upper Hermitage?
Upper Hermitage has clear natural and man-made borders. To the east, its boundary is Warner Road. The Little Para River forms its northern edge. A small part of Yatala Vale Road marks its southern border. To the west, it meets the area of Yatala Vale.
Generally, Upper Hermitage is located to the east of the larger urban area of Golden Grove. The main roads in Upper Hermitage are named after the first families who settled there. These roads include Warner Road, Neale Road, and Verrall Road.
What's in Upper Hermitage?
Upper Hermitage is home to a Country Fire Station. This station is very important for protecting the community from bushfires.
There used to be a winery called Glenara Wines on Range Road North, but it is now closed. The area also has two tennis courts and a tennis club. The club building used to be the CWA rooms. These facilities are located at the corner of Range Road North and Warner Road. Currently, the tennis courts are not used, and one serves as a car park for the fire station.

Public transport in Adelaide does not serve the Upper Hermitage area. This means residents usually rely on cars to get around.
