Yatala Vale is a quiet, rural suburb. It's located on the outer northeastern edge of Adelaide, which is the capital city of South Australia. This area is part of the City of Tea Tree Gully local government region. It sits next to other suburbs like Golden Grove and Fairview Park. It also borders rural areas such as Upper Hermitage and Gould Creek.
What's in a Name?
The name "Yatala" was once used for a very large area. This area was north of the River Torrens. It stretched all the way from the coast at Port Adelaide to Tea Tree Gully. People believe the word "Yatala" describes the plain getting flooded. This happens after heavy rain, especially around Dry Creek. Dry Creek actually starts quite close to Yatala Vale.
A Look Back in Time
Yatala Vale once had a small post office. It was called the "Yatala Vale Receiving Office." This office opened its doors on October 2, 1911. However, it only stayed open for a little over a year, closing in late 1912. For many years, and even today, Yatala Vale has been used for farming. People grow crops and grapes for making wine here.
Where is Yatala Vale?
The southern edge of Yatala Vale is marked by Yatala Vale Road. The rest of the suburb has an interesting, uneven shape. To the west, it's bordered by the sand quarries of Golden Grove. The Little Para Reservoir is to the north. To the east, you'll find the Little Para River.
