Valby is located in the beautiful state of Oregon. It's a peaceful spot that tells a story of early settlers. The community is found about 5 miles (8 kilometers) north of a place called Eightmile. Eightmile itself is along Oregon Route 206, a road that connects the towns of Condon and Heppner.
The Historic Valby Church
The most famous landmark in Valby is its Swedish Lutheran church. This church was built way back in 1897. It was constructed by people who had moved to Oregon from Sweden. They wanted a place to worship and keep their traditions alive.
In 1983, a newspaper called The Oregonian wrote an article about this church. It shared how the church and its community were doing at that time. About 35 people were still attending Sunday services. Many of these people were descendants of the original families who built the church. They would travel from as far as 20 miles (32 kilometers) away to be there. A pastor from Heppner would lead the services.
