Valenzuela is a small town and a district in Paraguay. It is part of the Cordillera Department. The town is located about 107 kilometers (66 miles) from Asunción, which is the capital city of Paraguay.
About Valenzuela
Valenzuela was founded a long time ago, in the year 1783. Before it became a town, the area was known as Yvyraity. The full name of the settlement used to be "Capilla de Valenzuela de los Naranjos." This long name came from a chapel dedicated to San Jose. Father Antonio Fernandez de Valenzuela built this chapel.
Population and Size
In 2002, about 5,581 people lived in the Valenzuela district. The total area of the district is 173 square kilometers (about 67 square miles). This makes it a smaller community in Paraguay.
What Valenzuela is Like
The main way people make a living in Valenzuela is through farming. They grow different crops, but one of the most important is ananas, also known as pineapples.
The town also has a special building: its parish church. Inside this church, you can find a beautiful old pulpit. This pulpit is made in the Baroque style. It dates back to the time of the first Jesuit missions in Paraguay. The Jesuits were a group of priests who came to the country a long time ago.
