History of Valeo Confectionery
How Tangerine Confectionery Started
In January 2006, Toms Confectionery changed its name to Tangerine Confectionery. This happened after a new management team bought the company. They bought it from Toms International, a company from Denmark.
The UK part of Toms had grown by buying three older sweet companies. These were Taveners, Daintee, and Parrs. These purchases happened between 1992 and 2001.
At first, the company mainly made sweets for other brands in England. In January 2006, Tangerine Confectionery officially bought the Taveners, Dainty, and Parrs businesses.
Growing Bigger
In April 2006, a magazine called The Grocer said Tangerine was the best own-label sweet supplier in the UK. This meant they were great at making sweets for other companies' brands.
In August 2006, the company bought the sweet-making part of Burton's Foods. This company was based in Blackpool. This purchase made Tangerine's sales grow to £60 million. It also made them the largest independent sweet company in the UK.
In January 2008, Tangerine bought Monkhill Confectionery from Cadbury plc. This deal cost £58 million. Monkhill had factories in Cleckheaton, Pontefract, and York. It also had a distribution center in Holmewood. This purchase included popular sweet brands like Barratts, Sharps of York, Jameson's, and Butterkist.
In April 2009, the company was listed as 23rd in the PricewaterhouseCoopers Profit Track 100. This list shows the UK's private companies with the fastest growing profits. Tangerine was the highest company from the North West on this list.
Becoming Valeo Confectionery
In August 2018, a company called Valeo Foods announced they had bought Tangerine Confectionery. This was a big step for the company.
Then, in December 2019, the company's name changed again. It became Valeo Confectionery, which is its name today.
