Valhalla Centre is a small community known as a hamlet in northern Alberta, Canada. It is part of the County of Grande Prairie No. 1.
This hamlet is located in the beautiful Peace River Country. You can find it where Highway 59 and Highway 723 meet. It's northeast of Hythe and west of Sexsmith. Valhalla Centre is about 40 kilometers (25 miles) east of the British Columbia border. It sits 735 meters (2,411 feet) above sea level.
Valhalla Centre is in Census Division No. 19. It is also part of the federal voting area called Peace River.

A Look Back in Time
Valhalla Centre was started in 1912. People from Scandinavia first settled here. They moved north from Edson.
The community was named by Reverend Halvar N. Ronning. He named it after Valhalla, which is Odin's great hall in Norse mythology. The first post office opened in 1916.
The settlement grew around a place that made butter and cheese, called a creamery, until 1945. The Melsness Mercantile building was built in 1925. It was a store and post office until 1951. Today, this building is a museum. It shows the history of the Scandinavian people who settled in the area. It has been named a Provincial Historic Site.

In 2021, a count of people called the 2021 Census found 40 people living in Valhalla Centre. These people lived in 19 homes. This was a change from 2016, when 15 people lived here.
The area of Valhalla Centre is 1.22 square kilometers (0.47 square miles). This means there were about 32.7 people living in each square kilometer in 2021.

The main jobs in Valhalla Centre are in farming. People also raise animals for food, which is called stock raising.
Places to Go and Things to Do
Valhalla Centre has several important places for the community. There is the Valhalla Lutheran Church. It also has a curling rink and a skating rink for winter sports.
The Melsness Mercantile building is now a museum. It teaches visitors about the history of the area. The community also has a school, the Valhalla Community School. This school teaches students from kindergarten to grade 8. It is one of 13 special publicly funded schools in Alberta called Alberta charter schools.
