Valle is one of the 18 departments in Honduras. It is like a state or a large region within the country.
The main city and capital of Valle is Nacaome. This department is located near the Gulf of Fonseca. It has areas with special coastal forests called mangrove swamps. Away from the coast, the land is very hot and dry.
Valle Department covers about 1,665 square kilometers (643 square miles). In 2015, around 178,561 people lived here. The department was officially created in 1893.
