History of Valley Springs

Valley Springs was officially started on November 13, 1872. It became an incorporated city on February 22, 1879. The city got its name from the natural springs found in the valley of Beaver Creek nearby.

Valley Springs is located very close to the border between South Dakota and Minnesota. The United States Census Bureau says that the city covers a total area of about 0.82 square miles (2.12 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
