History of Vesper Village
The village of Vesper started to grow in the early 1850s when the first settlers arrived. In the 1870s, two people named Girard and Drake built a sawmill on Hemlock Creek. This mill helped them cut wood from the nearby forests.
Their company also opened a store and a blacksmith shop. A post office was set up in 1878. The first postmaster, James Cameron, asked the federal government for a name for the new town. The name "Vesper" was chosen. It was named after the vesper sparrow, a bird found in the area.
In 1894, a large wildfire came from the woods. It burned down the mill and 23 houses on the west side of the creek.

Finally, the village officially became an incorporated village in 1948. This means it became its own legal town with its own local government.
