Vicente Miera Campos (born on May 10, 1940) is a Spanish former football player and coach. He played as a defender.

Vicente Miera played in 139 La Liga games during his ten seasons. He scored two goals in total. Most of his playing career was with Real Madrid. After he stopped playing, he became a football manager. His coaching career lasted more than 25 years. He even coached the Spanish national team for a short time.

Playing Football: Vicente Miera's Career

Vicente Miera was born in Nueva Montaña, a neighborhood in Santander, Cantabria. He started his professional career playing for his hometown team, Racing de Santander. He played there for two seasons.

Joining Real Madrid

In 1961, Miera joined Real Madrid, one of the biggest clubs in the world. He was not always a regular starter, except during the 1964–65 season. However, he was an important part of the team.

  • Real Madrid won seven La Liga titles while he was there.
  • He also helped the team win the European Cup in 1966. This is a very important trophy in European football.

Later Playing Years

In 1969, Miera moved to Sporting de Gijón. In his first year, he helped them get promoted to the top division of Spanish football. He retired from playing the next season, in 1971.

He played one game for the Spanish national team. This happened on December 10, 1961. It was a friendly match against France, and the game ended in a 1–1 draw.

Coaching Football: Vicente Miera's Journey

Vicente Miera started his coaching career in 1974. His first professional team was Real Oviedo. In his second year there, the team was relegated from the top league.

Coaching Different Clubs

After Real Oviedo, he moved to Sporting de Gijón. He stayed there for five years, except for the 1979–80 season when he coached RCD Español. He coached teams in both the top and second divisions for over 20 years. His last coaching job was with Sevilla FC in the second division during the 1997–98 season.

Coaching the National Team

Miera had already worked as an assistant coach for the Spanish national team for four years. In 1991, he became the head coach of the national team. He coached them for seven months. During this time, Spain did not manage to qualify for UEFA Euro 1992.

Later that summer, in 1992, he became the coach of the Spanish Olympic football team. He led this team to win the gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics. This was a huge achievement for him and for Spain!
