Playing for Football Clubs
Sánchez was born in Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay. He started his career playing for different teams in Uruguay, like Sud América and Tacuarembó.
Time in Mexico and Germany
Later, he moved to Mexico to play for Deportivo Toluca. He played there for many years, from 2001 to 2007. After that, in 2008, he joined a German club called Schalke. He stayed in Germany for two seasons.
He then returned to Mexico to play for Club América. On August 1, 2010, he scored his first goal for Club América in a game against Chiapas.
Playing in the United States
On August 6, 2013, Sánchez moved to the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States. He signed with the Colorado Rapids team. On September 14, 2013, he scored his first goal for Colorado. He also helped his team win 2–1 against FC Dallas by forcing an own goal.
Even though he often played as a substitute, Sánchez was a popular player for the Colorado Rapids. He was the team's second-highest scorer in 2015. However, the team decided not to keep him for the 2016 season. They wanted to bring in new players like Marco Pappa, Shkëlzen Gashi, Jermaine Jones, and Tim Howard.
Return to Uruguay and Another MLS Stint
After leaving the MLS, Sánchez went back to Uruguay. He joined his hometown club, Defensor Sporting, for the 2016 season. He helped them finish fourth, which meant they could play in the 2017 Copa Sudamericana tournament.
In 2017, Sánchez returned to the MLS again. This time, he joined the Houston Dynamo team. He helped the Dynamo reach the playoffs. He also made a game-winning assist in their first playoff game against Sporting Kansas City.
Coming Out of Retirement
On April 2, 2021, it was announced that Sánchez would come out of retirement. He decided to play and coach for the USL Championship team, Rio Grande Valley FC.

Vicente Sánchez played for the Uruguay national football team. He played in the 2007 Copa América, which is a big football tournament for South American countries. He played 31 games for his country and scored five goals.
