Vienna (pronounced vy-EN-uh) is a city in Georgia, United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Dooly County. In 2020, about 2,928 people lived there. Vienna is located near the Flint River.
The city was first named Berrien in 1826. Later, in 1833, its name changed to Drayton. Finally, in 1841, it was renamed Vienna. The name "Vienna" comes from the city of Vienna in Austria.

How Vienna Was Founded
Vienna was established in 1826. It was chosen as the county seat for Dooly County. At first, it was called Berrien.
Changes in Name and Location
The city's name changed to Drayton later on. In 1836, the county seat moved to a different spot, but it was still called Drayton. This new location was along the Flint River (Georgia).
Becoming an Official City
In 1841, the city was again named Vienna. It was also made the county seat once more. Vienna officially became a town in 1854. Then, in 1901, it was recognized as a city.

Where Is Vienna Located?
Vienna is in the southern part of Dooly County. U.S. Route 41 runs through the middle of the city. This road is known as Third Street. It goes north about 13 miles to Unadilla. It also goes south about 9 miles to Cordele.
Major Highways Near Vienna
Interstate 75 is about 2 miles east of Vienna's center. You can get on I-75 from Exits 109 and 112. I-75 goes north about 55 miles to Macon. It also goes south about 49 miles to Tifton.

The United States Census Bureau says Vienna covers about 5.5 square miles (14.2 square kilometers). A very small part of this area, about 0.03 square miles (0.07 square kilometers), is water.
