Viktor Láznička is a super talented chess player from the Czech Republic. He was born on January 9, 1988, in Pardubice. He holds the highest title in chess, called Grandmaster.

How Viktor Started Playing Chess
Viktor learned to play chess when he was just six years old. He quickly became very good at the game. He won many prizes in national championships for young players.
He won the under-10 championship in 1997. He also won the under-12 championship twice, in 1998 and 1999. In 2001, he came in second place in the under-18 event.
At the European Youth Chess Championship in 2005, he won a bronze medal. This was for players under 18 years old. After finishing school, Viktor went to Charles University in Prague. He studied Business Administration there.
Viktor's Big Wins in Chess
Viktor started winning big tournaments early in his career. He was a joint winner in Olomouc in 2002. He also shared first place in Mariánské Lázně in 2003.
He had great success in Brno, winning in both 2005 and 2006. In 2006, he won the main Czech Championship. This was also the year he became a Grandmaster.
That same year, he played in his first Chess Olympiad in Turin. He had the best individual score for the Czech team.
More International Success
In 2007, Viktor was a joint winner of the Czech Open. This tournament was held in his hometown. He also played in the Chess World Cup 2007. However, he was knocked out in the first round.
In 2008, he shared first place in Calcutta with another strong player. He was declared the winner after a tie-break. He also shared second place at the EU Individual Open Chess Championship. This event was held in Liverpool.
In December 2009, he tied for first place in a tournament in Pamplona. He shared the win with three other Grandmasters.
In June 2010, Viktor won the City of Good Wine Rapid tournament. The next month, he won the World Open Chess Tournament. He scored 7½ points out of 9 games. In August 2010, he won the Gyorgy Marx Memorial tournament. He scored 8 points out of 10 games.
Playing for the Czech Team
Viktor has played for the Czech Republic many times. He took part in the Chess Olympiad five times. These events happened between 2006 and 2014.
In 2019, he finished second in the Czech Blitz Championship. He scored 13 points out of 15 games.
Viktor has had several coaches during his chess journey. His most recent coach is Sergei Movsesian. Sergei is a highly-ranked player from Slovakia. He is also one of Viktor's teammates in the Czech chess league.
As of 2023, Viktor is the third highest-rated chess player in the Czech Republic.
