Sergei Musheghi Movsesian (Armenian: Սերգեյ Մուշեղի Մովսիսյան) was born on November 3, 1978. He is a talented chess player from Armenia. In 1997, he earned the special title of Grandmaster from FIDE, which is the world chess organization.
Sergei Movsesian has played for several countries during his career. He played for the Czech Republic for many years. Later, he represented Slovakia after they offered him citizenship. Since 2011, he has proudly represented his family's home country, Armenia. He was part of the Armenian team that won a gold medal at the 2011 World Team Chess Championship.

Becoming a Chess Champion
Sergei Movsesian has won many important chess tournaments. In 1998, he became the champion of the Czech Chess Championship. The next year, in 1999, he played in the FIDE World Chess Championship in Las Vegas. He made it to the quarterfinals, which is like the final eight players! He also played in the World Championship in 2000, 2002, and 2004.
Winning in Slovakia and Europe
Sergei also showed his skills in Slovakia. He won the Slovak Chess Championship twice, in 2002 and 2007. In 2002, he became the European champion in blitz chess. Blitz chess is a very fast game where players have only a few minutes for all their moves. This shows how quickly he can think!
Major Tournament Victories
Sergeian Movsesian has won many big international tournaments. He won the Bosna tournament in Sarajevo twice, in 2002 and 2007. This was a very strong tournament for Grandmasters.
He also won the Czech Coal Carlsbad Jubilee tournament in Karlovy Vary in 2007. He shared this win with another famous player, Ruslan Ponomariov. In the same year, he won the Mikhail Chigorin Memorial in Saint Petersburg.
One of his biggest wins was the Wijk aan Zee Corus B tournament in 2008. He finished a whole point ahead of other strong players like Nigel Short.
European Championship Success
In 2008, Sergei Movsesian earned a silver medal at the European Individual Chess Championship in Plovdiv. He tied for second place and won the tie-breaking games to get the medal. In 2013, he tied for first place in the same event with many other top players.
He also helped his Armenian team win a bronze medal at the 2015 World Team Championship in Tsaghkadzor.
