The Vilamajó House Museum (Spanish: Museo Casa Vilamajó) is a special place in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is the home that famous architect Julio Vilamajó built for his family in 1930. This house was the first modern home in Uruguay to become a museum. It opened its doors to the public in May 2012. The museum helps people learn about Vilamajó's life and work. It also teaches about architecture and design.

Discovering Vilamajó's Home
Julio Vilamajó built this house for his family in 1930. It was a very modern home for its time. It is the first modern house in Uruguay to become a museum. Around the world, many homes of famous architects have become museums. Some examples include the homes of Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier.
Bringing the House Back to Life
The Vilamajó House was carefully fixed up and restored. This was done to make it ready to be a museum. The building and its parts are now fully recovered. The inside of the house looks just like it used to. You can see the original furniture, art, and personal items. Even the gardens have been redone. They now have the same plants that were there before.
A Special Award
In 2010, the Vilamajó House Museum project won an award. It was part of the Cultural Incentive Fund. The project came in first place in the museum category. It was also called a place of "Cultural and Artistic Interest."

The house itself is a very important piece of modern design. It was named a National Historic Landmark in 1990. This means it is a protected and important building. Plan Your Visit
You can visit the Vilamajó House Museum on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It is open from 10 am to 4 pm. The best part is that admission is free! Guided tours are available at different times. These tours start at 10 am, 11 am, 12 noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm. Each group can have up to 10 people.
