Villa O'Higgins is a small, quiet town in southern Chile. It's part of the Aysén Region, a beautiful area known for its nature. The town is located far south, about 220 kilometers from Cochrane and 550 kilometers from Coyhaique.
The town was started in 1966. It's named after Bernardo O'Higgins, a very important hero in Chile's history who helped the country become independent. Villa O'Higgins is the main town of the O'Higgins commune in Capitán Prat Province.
One of the most important things about Villa O'Higgins is its connection to the Carretera Austral, also known as the Southern Highway. This highway is a famous route that helps people travel through this remote part of Chile. The last 120 kilometers of this road were finished in 2000, making it easier to reach the town. Villa O'Higgins is also seen as a starting point for exploring the amazing Southern Patagonian Ice Field.
