Discovering Villanueva del Campillo
The Ancient Verraco Sculpture
Villanueva del Campillo is famous for its verraco. This is a very old stone sculpture that looks like an animal. It was found partly buried in the ground a long time ago.
Today, this unique verraco stands proudly in the town's main square, called the plaza mayor. When it was found, part of the animal's back was missing. But don't worry, it has been carefully rebuilt! This verraco is special because it is the largest one ever found in the Iberian Peninsula, which includes Spain and Portugal.
The Historic Church
The town also has a beautiful church called the Villanueva del Campillo Church. This church has a very old history. It is believed to have connections to the Knights Templar. The Knights Templar were a famous group of Christian knights who lived many centuries ago.
